What is Community Acupuncture?
Following Asian footsteps, Community Acupuncture (which is treating patients in a group setting) is nothing new- it’s medical origins go back more than 5000 years. China’s medical system is socialized which allows Acupuncture to be accessible to the majority of individuals for a lesser cost.
In North America, however, Community Acupuncture is relatively new. This form of practice has come about from a social business model which makes healthcare more accessible and affordable. We at Function are a part of the 180 community clinics around the country that have implemented this service to better help and treat our community, bringing back this traditional approach of communal practice.
What is the treatment process?
During Community Acupuncture sessions at Function, individuals are treated fully clothed while they sit in linen draped zero-gravity chairs with calm music filling the background. Sterile, single-use needles are used as is standard with our private sessions. In this community setting, we treat mainly using distal (further from your core) points which are located on the arms, hands, legs, & feet, as well as points on the ears, face, & scalp. Due to this, patients are encouraged to wear loose, comfortable clothing, allowing the practitioner to gain access to these points. Since the whole body is interconnected in Chinese Medicine, we are able to treat a wide range of symptoms and ailments – from prevention, rejuvenation, and anti-aging to increasing your energy and mental function. You will absolutely look and feel great after one of these treatments and you will want to come back for more!! Treatments usually last between 30-45 minutes.
Why choose the community approach?
On top of the increased affordability, it’s about the collective energy in the room and what it does to our psyche. Community style treating offers an additional healing experience. Being surrounded by others tends to decrease nervousness because you are able to sit near others who themselves are extremely relaxed or may be sleeping. You may also be side by side with one of your friends or family. How much fun would that be!? Since the treatment space is in one room, the practitioner is always present. 🙂
What is the price and when is this style of treatment offered?
Community Acupuncture at Function is being offered initially on Mondays from 8am-2pm. When it comes to pricing, you can either come in for one visit which is $40 (nearly half off the price of an individual treatment) or you can pre-pay for multiple sessions. All payment & scheduling options are available online or you can call in to the practice to set up a treatment. We hope to see you soon!
