I went to Function two days ago for the first time. I was able to get in quickly. I did not have to wait for my appointment once I arrived. My massage lasted a full hour. Walking into the place feels less like a business and more like a comforting, spacious, clean condominium or art studio.
Mikki, the massage therapist who did my massage was friendly, professional and attentive. I went in after having pain and tension in my neck/head/shoulders for some time to get relief. I have had professional massages before, which were pleasant, but I do feel her skills and abilities surpassed the therapists I have gone to in the past in relieving pain. She mentioned she enjoyed learning anatomy, which shows in the way she does her work. She is very accurate and applies ample, steady pressure in areas where it’s needed. Most massage therapists in the past have paid minimal attention to knots, whereas she worked them out until they were loose. Also, a cool thing she does that I have not seen before is the stretching she incorporates a lot of into the massage. I actually felt a good amount of lasting relief from this massage and am able to sleep better than I had before.
I would most definitely recommend Function if you are looking for massage therapy. Totally worth it.

I’ve had quite a few massages in my lifetime and Andy is truly the best. Knowledgable and receptive, his massages are never formulaic. As a student, I spend a lot of time hunched over books with terrible posture- whenever I see Andy, I leave feeling deeply refreshed and about a foot taller! Highly recommend 10/10.

As I deal with Post Concussion Syndrome, Andy is always there to help find the much needed relief for my head. Andy took the time to formulate an Acupuncture treatment plan that was best for my condition. Having tried numerous massage therapists through out the metro area, I am very fortunate to have found a home with a professional therapist that takes the time to understand your personal needs. Whether acupuncture and/or massage, Andy is the best! The new office space is very welcoming, warm and professional. Congrats on your new space Andy.

I am so glad I found Function Massage. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable as soon as I walked in the door. The atmosphere is welcoming and calming – just what one would want when coming in to unwind. I was very impressed with the quality of the massage. I felt relaxed from my head to my toes for days afterwards. Being an athlete myself, I train very hard and had a lot of muscle tension. I was amazed at how well my muscles responded to the work I had at Function. I would definitely recommend anyone – athletes and non athletes alike, to check out Function Massage for your next appointment.

Andy is the most skilled massage therapist in the Metro area. Considering all the pain medication and PT I’ve endured in the past nothing feels more therapeutic than a massage from Andy.

I am surprised not more people know about this place. I’m equally amazed at how few reviews…. I created a yelp account specifically to promote this place.
A little background. I am a high school teacher so I am on my feet all day. I carry my stress in my neck and back, so much that I have migraine medicine. I also have tmj and have a bite plate for at night. I’ve done the massage thing for over ten years. I’ve gone to the chain places and the small mom and pop businesses. I’ve gone to massage school and seen a lot of set ups.
I hadn’t gone to get a massage in forever and my body was killing me. I decided to go to function- it was near, a fairly reasonable price, and had online booking – a HUGE plus for me! I hate having to call and trying to hear the receptionist as others are talking in the background, ick! (I’m looking at you, massage envy!)
It took a brief moment for me to figure out how to enter the building but a sandwich board placed outside helped. I walked in and was instantly greeted by who I found, was my massage therapist. I filled out the paperwork and we got right down to business. Sara, who I had, was very good! She knew how to work everything, which is impressive to me. I don’t think I have a complex muscular system, but it seems to baffle a good number of massage therapists. Sara knew what to do. When we finished, she asked about my experience and made me feel like my opinion mattered, rather than the cursory “how was it?”
I went back a second time to make sure my experience wasn’t a fluke. It wasn’t. I got Kate the second time and wow!! Kate was fabulous as well. She took the time to sit down with me beforehand (rather than stand awkwardly on opposite sides of the bed..) and figure out my pains. She talked a little bit on how she was going to approach my massage so there were no surprises. She also does acupuncture. I’ve never done it before but I’m willing to find out through Function! There was a cart full of the appropriate medical equipment to sterilize, discard, and protection measures, such as gloves.
When I was done, I got a free t shirt (that actually fits and is comfy to wear!) to help advertise. It is a very quiet, professional place. I felt relaxed instantly both times I showed up. Worth it and I will be returning.

I’ve been Andy’s client for a few years-my 90 minutes every other week is the best use of disposable income I can think of! He is a great guy and has incredible hands. Thanks Andy! I will keep praising your work and sending as many people to you as I can.

Had a fantastic massage with Mikki today. Still feeling it hours later! Five stars!

Andy is spectacular. He gave me a “recovery” massage two days after I completed a sprint triathlon. Unlike spa massages, Andy knew exactly what muscles needed attention, the pressure to use, the stretches to do, etc. He gave attention to muscles that I didn’t know I had — nor did I know how rigorously I had used them!
This was my first “athletic” massage and I loved it! I highly recommend this approach and the staff. Ironically, I had another Function masseuse give me a quick free five- minute massage at the triathlon event two days prior. His expertise was amazing, too.
I look forward to going back.

I run a lot and went in for my first sports massage to help with some nagging injuries. I met with Mikki and she simply was great. Mikki was very professional, extremely knowledgeable and she listened to what I said and was very focused on working the problem areas.
My workout the next day definitely benefited from my massage. I will absolutely go back as I need and as my body demands and I feel very confident that each visit will end with positive results.
Thank you Mikki and thank you Function massage!

Received my first acupuncture treatment from Andy today. Service was efficient, prompt, and professional. No questions left unanswered and the process was thoroughly explained. I would for sure recommend making an appointment with Function acupuncture and massage and let the healing begin!

Andy is what I’ve always wanted in a massage therapist. He’s professional – always taking an ethical holistic approach to massage and wellness. As an individual – he’s present but never intrusive. He’s warm and caring and treats you with respect. I have been seeing Andy for bodywork for the last 5+ years and I remain impressed with his excellence.

Andy had administred my massages at our Corp Headquaters specifically due to a car accident injury back in February, after 6 weeeks I felt so much better. I haven’t had time to go in for another until yesterday and tried a full body massage with Mikki and it was wonderful! Felt so revitalizing and as I left told myself I am not waiting that long again! The studio space is very calming and relaxing and they really cater to your individual needs! I highly recommend making an appointment!

I recently had my second baby and Function has been a life saver! Pregnancy really puts the body through a lot of stress and I have found massage to be a vital tool to keep it functioning (no pun intended) properly. I saw Sara for prenatal massage and Mikki several weeks post-partum. Both Therapists were AWESOME and provided exactly what my body needed at that specific point in my pregnancy/recovery.
I would recommend Function Massage & Acupuncture to anyone and everyone. 🙂

I can’t say enough good things about Function and especially Mikki. As a Chiropractor I have worked with many therapists and can honestly say she is fantastic. It is awesome to have someone that really connects with what your body needs. I am a former Division 1 football player and now an avid crossfitter and dad so my body has and continues to take a beating. Mikki has done wonders to keep my mobility where it needs to be to perform at a high level. Not only is she my own personal massage therapist but I now refer my patients to her as well.

I was visiting from out of state and a friend referred me to Function. Being 5 months pregnant and with a history of back problems from scoliosis, Im always in need of good, effective therapy. I had a massage with Mikki and she was attentive, responsive and I left feeling relaxed with just the right amount of soreness to know the session would have a deeper, lasting effect for the days to come.
I met Andy (the owner) after my appointment and he was very genuine and told us about his business. When my husband picked me up he even gave us both free shirts to help advertise — even though we don’t live in the area!

I can’t say enough great things about Andy. He is finally helping me find pain relief after 10 year of neck issues! The difference is that he actually listens to me unlike other massage and pain therapists and he is 100% committed to working to finding a solution. He isn’t just going through the motions or doing a “routine”.

Andy is the best.
I keep going back and always worth the time and money. When I am sore from lifting, or just slept on my shoulder wrong I make an appointment. If I have been lazy and not working out, and need to jump start the muscles and motivate myself to get moving I make an appointment. When I am stressed out and my shoulders tighten up and the heat pad is just not enough I make an appointment. I never regret it. Always go for 90 min.

I have been going to Andy for massages for quite a few years now. I have several problems with chronic pain in my back, neck and feet, but no matter the issue when I go in Andy knows just what to do to take the pain away.
Thanks again Andy for a great massage! The pain in my back is completely gone.
What a relief! You are the best!!

Thoughtful, thorough, professional, intuitive. These are the words that come to mind when I think of Andy and the massage I got this weekend.
I appreciate Andy’s attention to detail and his kind demeanor. Already booked my next appointment.
I live in St Paul, and there are plenty of places much more conveniently located, but none that I have tried closer to home match the quality of service and combination of professionalism and kindess that I experienced with Andy. Well worth the drive!

I don’t get a massage often enough, but when I do, I make an appointment with Andy.
My body has issues, above and beyond what most people have, but that is no issue for him. I prefer to book an appointment with him for 90 minutes, probably because I don’t get in to see him often enough.
When I get off the table I know one thing: there will not be a single major muscle group that hasn’t been worked on.
Once you have had a massage with Andy you will understand why he has so many professional athletes and performers (Cirque du Soleil, for example) for clients.
The new space for Function is great and hopefully he will get some signage on the outside of the building soon. If you book an appointment allow a couple of extra minutes as the new location is a bit tricky to find but not impossible.

Kate is an extraordinary human being! From the moment I met Kate, I knew that she would have a tremendous impact on my life. She is the most wonderful and caring person whose passion for healing the mind, body, and spirit shows in everything she does. She takes the time to get to know her patients. She asks the right questions to better understand needs and target the areas of concern. She ACTUALLY cares about her people (yes, once she begins a care plan with you, you become one of her "people"). I love being one of Kate's people -- She has performed miracles for me (okay, that might be an exaggeration but hot damn she executes eastern medicine healing methods like nobody else)! Everything Kate does is done with passion, purpose but more importantly, love.
Kate, you are the freaking best! I am forever grateful for having found you.

Both therapists that I have visited have been fantastic. The facility and rooms are comfortable and calming. Excellent job on tailoring the experience to you. I find it difficult finding massage therapists that focus on functional massage, helping you restore flexibility and performance. These therapists are excellent with these styles.

I would highly recommend Function MN, espcially Kate D, for therapeutic massage for the treatment of muscle dysfunction, trigger point release and myofascial release.
